Existential Psychotherapy

Existential therapy confronts some of the most fundamental questions regarding human existence: "Who am I?" “What is my purpose in life?” “Am I free or determined?” “How do I deal with my own mortality?” "How do I deal with the mortality of the ones I love dearly?" "What happens to me after I die?" "Am I making a great enough impact on the world?" "Does my existence have any meaning or significance?" "Is all of this meaningless?" "How shall I live my life?" This will often involve a philosophical and ethical exploration of the big questions of human existence, such as truth, meaning, justice, freedom, beauty, consciousness, choice, responsibility, friendship and love. These philosophies of existence stress certain “ultimate concerns” -- often in tension with each other -- such as freedom of choice, the quest for meaning or purpose, and the problems of evil, isolation, suffering, guilt, anxiety, despair, and death. Existential therapy is commonly sought by people who are experiencing an existential crisis: some specific circumstance in which we experience our basic sense of survival, security, identity or significance as being threatened. Such existential threats may be of a physical, social, emotional or spiritual nature, and may be directed toward one's self, others, the world in general or the ideas and perceptions we live by. They shock and shake us out of our sense of safety and complacency, forcing us to question and doubt our most deeply held beliefs or values. Existential therapy is a supportive and collaborative exploration of the clients’ lived experiences. The here and now therapeutic relationship and the relationships that exist between you and the context of your world beyond the therapeutic experience is of primary importance. In examining the human condition, itself, the strong philosophical foundation allows us to explore its myriad facets, from tragic to wondrous, horrific to beautiful, material to spiritual -- as its central focus. While coming to terms with our inability to escape our participation in existing within this human experience. Existential therapy illuminates each person for their uniqueness. Which brings attention to inevitable limits and constraining factors when it comes to choosing and creating your own way of being in the world. In this we honor the perpetually emerging, unfolding, paradoxical nature of the human experience. We cultivate compassion for all the selves you’ve been and will be. You will learn to love yourself and feel confident in the choices you authentically make along the way. As an Existential-Phenomenological psychotherapist, I carry my work through presence, authenticity, and relationality. I am dedicated to helping you live your best life, embrace uncertainty, live authentically, overcome anxiety & depression, process grief & loss, & confront existential concerns. I work with those who are in relationships that no longer serve them & prevent them from becoming their best selves. Those who are ready to file for divorce, just filed, or are contemplating leaving their partner, or those who are wanting to fix it. Those who feel they must know what will happen in the future. People who have a creative passion but do not make space in their lives for it to flourish. Those who do not leave space in their lives for themselves. People who suffer from writer's block, experience self-doubt, perfectionism, lack of motivation, strive to be productive, never complete projects, fear being successful, & fear failing. I help those who have an overwhelming sense of sadness, negative self-talk, lack of trust in self & others. Are you willing to experience the same thing you are today, a year from now? This is not how your life has to be lived. You are powerful and I am here to walk with you through this. The biggest changes in life are our most profound transformations and become pivotal monuments in our lived narrative. Are you ready to change your life? I often see clients for years. Even if nothing severe is occurring in your life it is helpful to remain in therapy because life will always give us an unexpected challenge to face along the way. Even if I didn't make money doing this, I would still do this work. It is my calling.
